Keeping Abreast of Things

On Tuesday, May 21, 54 passionate local business employees attended a Pink Ribbon Breakfast at Browne Street jointly organised by the RBA and Intelligent Environments.

Pink Ribbon Day, organised by the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, is a vital event that raises awareness, funds research, and supports those impacted by breast cancer, significantly improving the lives of countless individuals and families impacted by this disease.

It was heartening to see everyone dressed in pink and fully embracing the significance of the pink ribbon, which symbolises the fight against breast cancer. Many of us have been affected by breast cancer, whether through a family member, close friend, acquaintance, or work colleague diagnosed with the disease. It is important to note that breast cancer affects men also, with about 25 men diagnosed annually in New Zealand.

The event had an impressive turnout, with attendees captivated by the morning’s guest speaker, Talia Cooper, who courageously shared her personal story. Diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 30, shortly after giving birth to her first child, Talia underwent chemotherapy while caring for her newborn. With the support of her family, she managed to overcome this challenging period. Her story highlighted that breast cancer knows no age discrimination and affects not only the body, but also the individual’s overall wellbeing.

The breakfast featured a fun “boobs and bums” game. There were also opportunities to contribute to this worthy cause through a live auction on TradeMe that featured products donated by local Rosebank businesses, with guests also encouraged to visit the donation page.

Attendees left with small pink goodie bags and a deeper appreciation for the efforts to combat breast cancer.

We raised $? and are grateful to all the businesses and individuals who contributed auction items and pink goodie bag products. We also appreciate the support from the Pink Ribbon Breakfast attendees, everyone who donated, and the company employees who dressed up in pink and sent us their photos.

Let’s fight breast cancer – one pink ribbon at a time!
