World Forest: Ngahere maori mo nga ra kei mua
On weekends World Moving & Storage director Bruce Reid travels 90 mins north of AKL to a 21-hectare ex-forestry block, 4 HA of which are native bush. Bruce works with his wife Mette to plant the remaining 17 HA with native seedlings they’ve grown at home and sourced locally. They’re slowly transforming the block back into a forest of native trees, soaking up carbon and providing a habitat for native birds.
World Moving & Storage is aiming to plant enough trees by 2025 to be carbon neutral, offsetting the emissions of each move they do. But they’ll continue beyond that to become carbon positive.
Bruce tells us: “The whole environment thing can seem too big, too hard, and overwhelming, so take a breath and #justdosomething. We are not doing this to tick boxes, but because we can and should.”i
Congratulations Bruce, you are this month’s Most Wanted individual
