How the Rosebank Business Association is Championing the Safety of Your Business and Employees

Our Story So Far:

In May 2020, amidst the challenges brought about by the onset of COVID-19, our business community in Rosebank faced an alarming increase in crime. It was clear that something needed to be done, and thus, the Neighbourhood Watch Burglary Report was born.

This report quickly became a vital tool for our community. Managed by the RBA, it provided monthly updates on ongoing issues, informed local businesses of crime trends, and encouraged everyone to remain vigilant. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. People appreciated being in the know, and there was a noticeable improvement in vigilance and neighbourly communication. Our business community began to come together in new and meaningful ways.

As interest and engagement grew, we realised the potential for even greater impact. In response, the Rosebank Crime Prevention Group (RCPG) was established. Comprised of key stakeholders—including Auckland Council, Whau Local Board, Avondale Police, Auckland Transport, Matrix Security, and the RBA—the RCPG had a clear mission: to develop and implement solutions to make Rosebank a safer business community.

Thanks to the dedication of the RCPG, we identified our two main issues: lawbreakers (burglars) and street racers. In May 2021, we took initial steps to address these problems by placing five Alcohol Ban signs on lampposts throughout our area. These were followed by nine ‘CCTV is Watching You’ signs on side streets, serving as a deterrent to potential offenders.

One of the most promising solutions we’ve identified is the installation of actual CCTV cameras throughout the area. These cameras would serve as both a deterrent to potential criminals and a tool for law enforcement to effectively respond to incidents. Even more promising, these cameras will be connected to the NZ Police vGRID, allowing law enforcement to access live footage. However, such an initiative requires significant funding, and this is where we need your help.

Support the CCTV Funding Project

We have already raised $23,000, but we need additional support to reach our goal of $57,000. By contributing to our CCTV fund, you are investing directly in the safety and wellbeing of our business community. Your support will help us:

  • Reduce Crime Rates: Visible CCTV cameras can deter criminal activities, making our streets safer for everyone.
  • Support the NZ Police: CCTV footage, accessible through the NZ Police vGRID, can provide critical evidence, helping law enforcement solve crimes more efficiently.
  • Enhance Community Trust: Business owners and employees will feel more secure and connected to our community knowing that measures are in place to protect them.

Our efforts are further bolstered by the Burglary Blog, which keeps everyone informed about recent incidents and encourages sharing CCTV footage from businesses. This real-time communication has proven invaluable in keeping our neighbourhood alert and united against crime.

Additionally, in May 2023, we hosted a Crime Prevention Webinar where the community engaged in an informative discussion on current trends and insights into local criminal activity, led by NZ Police and Matrix Security. This event provided valuable information and fostered a stronger sense of community involvement and preparedness.

We are not just asking for financial contributions but inviting you to participate in this initiative. An initiative that says we care about our community, that we will not stand by as crime threatens our peace, and that together, we can create a safer, more secure Rosebank business community.

Together, we can make a lasting difference.
